Reinforced Slab Bridge

This wizard allows for specifying simple reinforced concrete slab bridges without pre-stressing and without considering stage-wise construction.

The cross-section is a plate with horizontal surface and bottom face, and with or without cantilever plates along each edge. The maximum width is restricted to 24 m carrying maximum 6 traffic lanes.

The maximum number of spans is 20. The superstructure is essentially continuous, i.e. no span by span arrangement with hinges over the piers is considered.

The plate depth can be different in different spans but the cross-section is essentially constant over the length of the individual spans.

The calculation model can be a beam considering the total superstructure cross-section as on single beam subjected to bending and St.Venant torsion (only reasonably applicable for small cross-sections) or a girder grid simulating the bi-axial bearing behavior of the plate. w

In case the user selects using a grid model, the plate is automatically subdivided into 9 longitudinal girders independent of the actual plate width. The edge girders comprise the cantilever plate together with the respective part of the load-bearing plate. The 7 intermediate girders are girders with rectangular cross-section of regular width. The fictitious cross-girders simulating the bending in transverse direction are automatically created in accordance with generally accepted modeling rules.

In longitudinal direction the spans are primarily subdivided into 10 elements allowing for having a reasonable grid model and for getting accurate results along the span length.
